In 2006, Joseph A. Lieberman's book *The Shooting Game - The Making of School Shooters* (Seven Locks Press) examined the whole 34-year phenomenon of school shooting right up until spring of that year. Unfortunately, the horror continued unabated, and a new version of the book will be released by Kensington Press in September 2008, titled *SCHOOL SHOOTINGS - What Every Parent and Educator Needs to Know to Protect Our Children*.

Until The Shooting Game and *SCHOOL SHOOTINGS* no one had really answered the question, “Why do they do it?” These works examine this phenomenon from every possible angle- suicidal ideation, bullying,  prescription drugs, media influences, psychological backgrounds, gender issues and much more. Both books also include a harrowing, detailed examination of the only shooting incident in which a young man was arrested the previous day for having a loaded, stolen gun in his school locker- and then RELEASED!  Why? The answer will shock you.  Fifteen-year-old Kip Kinkel then went on to wound the highest number of individuals by gunfire in any student rampage, and killed two students.

“I will have to live with the fact that I was shot at school, the one place I’m supposed to be safe.”- Thurston High School student Elizabeth McKenzie

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT *THE SHOOTING GAME*:

"Tragically timely." - The Portland Oregonian, Jan. 2007

"Riveting! Despite a heavy work load, I read it in three days, learning more than I ever imagined about a subject I thought I knew." - Madalyn Tower, member of governing board, OSCA

"Reading this, my heart hurt, but as a mother, I thought of my kids, I thought, ‘Every parent must read this book.’ " - Heather Buchman, Senior Editor and former president of the Costa Mesa MOMS Club

"The Shooting Game is no mere gratuitous rehash. Using old-fashioned reporting... Lieberman reveals important information not made public during the original coverage.... he may have been the perfect person to take a fresh look at how and why (these events) occurred." - Karen McCowan, The Register-Guard

"I haven’t read a more powerfully written, thoroughly mesmerizing book in ages." - Hans Kracauer/ award-winning screenwriter

“We, as a society, have become systematically desensitized to the pain and suffering of others... We are reaching the stage at which the inflicting of pain and suffering has become a source of entertainment: vicarious pleasure rather than revulsion. We are learning to kill, and we are learning to like it.”
-  Lt. Col. Dave Grossman in his book On Killing
